Heavy fuel oil use by vessels in Arctic waters MEPC 69/20/1
Heavy fuel oil (HFO) use poses a significant hazard to the Arctic marine environment, including to wildlife and coastal communities, through the risk of spills that would be difficult if not impossible to clean up. Burning HFO also produces harmful emissions. The concerns of co-sponsors are expounded and the co-sponsors welcome views of other parties. Paper submitted to IMO meeting MEPC 69, paper MEPC 69/20/1.
